Summer Camp at Stanford
This summer, I was lucky enough to attend a weeklong web design and photography
camp at Stanford University. The
experience was so brilliant and it really gave me the boost I needed into the
start of my 8th grade project.
I had the opportunity to meet some new people and counselors who were
interested in Graphic Art and Design just like I am.
Over the course of five days I took photos, edited in Lightroom
and Adobe Photoshop, and made a website using Adobe Muse. At first I was nervous to attend the camp
because I had virtually no experience with all of the applications and the PC
computers. However, it turned
out to be really fun and I loved getting to know some new people. My group and I would start the day off with photography,
which consisted of taking photos around the Stanford campus. It would be
anything from the fancy artistry on buildings or an artsy shot of the pavement
under the suns rays. At noon, all the teenagers would
walk over to the cafeteria and eat our one meal for the day. Here, I met new people my age, like Livia, Selem,
and Will. After lunch, it was editing
time! The editing tools we used were
complicated and confusing, so before everyone dove into their hard work, our instructor
Wave would teach us new things we could use on the software to edit our photos.
And that was pretty much it, with some
breaks for unbreakable riddles and games.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we started making our website. This was the part that related most to my
project and I learned a lot of critical skills that will help me with graphic
art and design this coming year.

In all, I learned many new skills about the Adobe software
and more about the general world of photography. To say things in short, I practiced setting up a good photo
and the settings on a camera, how Photoshop and Lightroom operate, and
lastly how to make a website on Muse. I
am so glad I attended this camp and it really showed me that I have to get
moving full throttle into my 8th grade
project of Graphic Art and Design this coming year.

This is fascinating. Now, how does your camp experience tie in with Graphic Design?
